Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team reached their first championship series following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.
Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now hit 23 October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that moment besides George Springer with his October magic," remarked Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their performance in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays won the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
