Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with results like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
