One 60-day journey around the Australian Coast is being halted following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the ship staff realised the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that guests and staff on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Guests on board - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to take part in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or snorkeling.
