Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
