Usually, summary installments face criticism among audiences as an unnecessary waste of time, or sometimes accepted as a requirement in television in the era of regular broadcasts. However, this wasn't the situation, but Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it via "The Ember Island Players," a cherished episode from its final season that is now getting an exclusive Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop.

Details of the collector's edition

The full Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was revealed on November 4. Containing five distinct sets, and even though a set named "My Cabbages!" is clearly funny homage to the show's beloved recurring figure, the additional releases appear slightly lacking creativity, aside from one remarkable entry: "The Ember Island Players."

Based on installment 17 from season 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this collector's drop includes the following cards:

• 1x Mask of Memory
• 1x Thespian's Stage

Why this installment is special

Viewers of the series warmly cherish this installment, which functioned as a recap of the protagonist Aang and his friends' journey prior to the final episode. Different from standard summary installments, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" did not stem by budget restrictions or scheduling problems. The producers specifically aimed to provide audiences a chance to revisit the series' story, but they decided to approach it inventively.

In the episode, the heroes watches a theatrical performance based on their exploits on a stage set on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and overall hilarious. It succeeds as it plays with the heroes' understanding about themselves, juxtaposing them with how the world (and especially the Fire Nation citizens) views them. It has the perfect balance of introspective humor, and it becomes perhaps the best adaptation of the show released so far.

Value and pricing

When it comes to cost-effectiveness, this represents an excellent Secret Lair due to one key factor: Braid of Fire. This particular card trades for $20 and $40 on various platforms currently, and at $29.99 you can obtain the entire Secret Lair, or for $39.99 for the shiny edition.

Magic's Avatar: The Last Airbender set will be available during early access events on Nov. 14 and launches globally on Nov. 21.
